Mid-century German chair set by Casala, 1960s

Two rare mid-century spindle chairs by Casala. A classic Windsor chair design in a Scandinavian style. This is evident in the minimalist design with understated ornamentation. Particularly notable here are the shapes of the legs and spindles. The frame is made of solid wood elements with sometimes complex connections. The seat consists of a frame with a plywood surface. The backrest is concave and divided into thin spindles. The upper end of the backrest has a traditional shape that can also be found in the creations of Borge Mogensen. The complex connections are striking. The penetration of the seat by the spindles and legs, in particular, gives this design a particular stability. The chairs are in very good condition with signs of wear and patina. Two stretchers have been repaired.
