Exceptional piece of cabinetmaking: Mid-century desk / Art Deco console - Reconstruction (circa 1940-1950). Let yourself be seduced by the timeless elegance of this superb modernist mahogany desk. With its sculptural lines and fine craftsmanship, this piece perfectly embodies the taste and lineage of the creations by the renowned interior architect and decorator Maxime Old. An ideal centrepiece to add a touch of prestige and character to a refined study or a collector's interior. โจ DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURAL ADVANTAGES: Lines & Base: It stands out with a "sabre" base of rare elegance and slenderness, complementing a belt with delicately rounded corners. A clean design typical of Reconstruction furniture. Noble material: Entirely made of mahogany, revealing a deep, warm patina and precious grain that beautifully captures light. High-quality details: On the front, two fully removable drawers are adorned with their original solid gilded brass "butterfly" handles (also known as "diabolo" or "hourglass" handles). A rare modernist hardware detail, highly sought after by 20th-century design enthusiasts. ๐ Dimensions. Length: 114.5 cm. Depth: 65 cm. Height: 76 cm. ๐ ๏ธ Condition & Restoration. General structure: The piece is sound, robust, and perfectly stable. It has withstood the decades superbly. Restoration needed: One upper corner of the leg has a significant crack with traces of old glue (clearly visible in the photos). A cleaning of the old glue followed by a neat re-gluing and a small cabinetmaking restoration will be necessary to restore this piece to its original brilliance. The selling price has been carefully studied and adjusted downwards to account for these restoration works.
