Pair of napoleon III chairs in blackened wood, each with an openwork backrest, carved with foliage and a lion's muzzle in the center. This backrest is topped with a perpendicular element engraved with arabesques allowing one to rest one's arms, an essential characteristic of a traveler. The seats are restored and fitted with a floral and animal tapestry in a deep blue. These seats are studded. Below, the belt is carved and animated. The whole rests on crowbars with hooves and saber feet at the back for more stability. The traveler chair: mainly used in rooms reserved for games, this type of chair was used in particular for card games or for informal conversations during an evening. Their seat allowed one to sit facing the backrest, on one's knees or astride depending on whether one was a man in trousers or a woman in a dress. Their high backrest, decorated with a curved padded or unpadded cushion, allowed one to rest one's arms comfortably. Thus seated and leaning, one could easily watch the players seated around the gaming tables and observe their games (but also the room and the other guests) in complete tranquility, hence the term "voyeuristic" chairs. ******** period: mid-19th century seats redone. Structure with traces of wear. Delivery possible on estimate in france and internationally. Dimensions: width: 41 cm depth: 52 cm height: 85 cm seat height: 49 cm reference: 090125.
