This elegant glazed stoneware pendant light was created by Danish ceramist Bodil Marie Nielsen around 1960. It perfectly illustrates the revival of post-war Scandinavian artistic ceramics, a period during which Danish artisans developed a formal language blending simplicity, natural materials, and a quest for textures. Bodil Marie Nielsen is known for her lighting and ceramic objects with organic shapes, made in small series or by hand. Her work is distinguished by the use of high-quality stoneware, nuanced glazes, and pierced decorations that transform light into a true sculptural element. This pendant features a sober and balanced silhouette, enhanced by a glaze in natural tones. The regularly spaced perforations around the lampshade diffuse a soft light while casting a subtle play of shadows, characteristic of the brutalist and modernist lighting of that era. The piece bears the stamped signature "Bodil Marie Nielsen Denmark" under its upper part, attesting to its authenticity. It is in very good vintage condition. The light functions correctly. A few very slight losses of glaze are only visible upon close inspection and are consistent with the age of the piece. The ceiling rose and mounting bracket are not present and will need to be replaced before installation.
