Old wooden nutcracker with mallet and plate

This beech wood nut case comes from the périgord and was used for eensing, a practice that has always been at the heart of the popular perigourdine tradition. The "knitting" was used, the hardwood mesh in boxwood, to break the shell in the centre, preserving the intact kernels. This activity was practiced during the vigils.
