Superb centerpiece with a modernist design in earthenware imitating faux bois, matte beige, ochre and brown enamel grandjean jourdan de vallauris from the 1950s. Here is an exceptional example of the famous "faux bois" of the grandjean-jourdan dynasty: sébastien and then his son eugène grandjean. The family ceramic company grandjean-jourdan had been established in vallauris since the 19th century and created this iconic collection in the 1950s thanks to the faux-bois decor imitating olive wood. The idea of imitating olive wood was born by chance when a decorator tried to blur the brushstrokes of the wood-colored backgrounds of one of the ceramics with a cotton pad. Signed in hollow with the stamp "grandjean-jourdan vallauris am" in perfect condition length 41 cm / 16.1" width 17 cm / 6.7" height 11 cm / 4.3" weight 1.4 kg.
