An old project for a fan leaf on watercolor paper and black felt-tip pen, titled lower right "La Marseillaise, 1792" and bearing below in the center the inscription "Fan for the use of all". Signed lower left by Jean-Édouard Ferdinand Boscher. Original wooden frame under glass, and (recent) mat. Sun-exposed leaf, small stains. Dimensions at sight: 27.5 X 38.5 cm. Ref. adequantik 2212921. Jean-Édouard Ferdinand Boscher (1888 -?), French painter and illustrator. Particularly active in the 1920s/1930s, illustrating various magazines, theater programs, and advertisements for Houbigant (famous perfumer known to fans). He often depicts characters in 18th-century finery.
