Antique Ironstone Soup Plates – Handmade Floral Decoration by the "Phénix Déposé" Brand Dimensions: H 3 cm, diameter approx. 22 cm. Ironstone, which appeared in France around 1840, is a denser and more durable earthenware than traditional earthenware. Highly prized in bourgeois homes and hotels at the turn of the century, it combined refined decoration with everyday durability. The Phénix Déposé brand was a guarantee of quality and export; these pieces adorned family tables as well as inn sideboards.
