Dining table by Børge Mogensen, FDB Mobler Shaker 'Vittarp'

Very rare model c18 dining table designed by Børge Mogensen for FDB Mobler in 1947. This table was designed in 1947 and produced in the mid-1960s. The table is made of light oak, has a sturdy base and a generous tabletop. The trestle legs are recessed and allow the user to enjoy generous legroom. It is in very neat original condition with traces of use in the form of a somewhat darker discoloration due to age and use. The man of the house sat here every day, which may explain the traces. The table is marked twice at the bottom on the legs. The first owners purchased this table in the 1960s from a company specializing in modern living; it was then an exclusive and expensive purchase. The condition is very neat; the table has been used satisfactorily for decades, which gives the whole a suitable patina. The construction is rock solid. As a pioneer of rationalist design, Børge Mogensen was known as "the people's designer"—partly because of his engaging personality, but also because he consistently designed quality furniture that was affordable to the people. He was a disciple of Kaare Klint, for whom he worked after graduating from the Danish Academy of Arts.
