This ceramic vase features a finely detailed decoration of delicate hand-painted plants. The colours are soft: a fir green on a speckled water green background. The shape of the vase is harmonious. Everything about this vase indicates a skilled artisanal work that results in the creation of a calming object. And probably, in a wabi-sabi spirit, the Japanese art of imperfection. Indeed, the thickness of the glazing is not uniform, and near the base, it is almost absent. The speckled water green colour is missing in several areas around the neck, resembling the fingerprints of the artist. I believe this is a deliberate choice by the potter. It is signed Gabet. I have found a few ceramics with the same signature where the name Hélène Gabet is mentioned. Hélène Gabet is known for having created decorations for the Longwy pottery, famous for its glazes in the 1950s and 60s. She also worked as a gilder there. It is unclear whether she continued to work with ceramics afterwards (she passed away in 2016). Some elements support this, particularly that Hélène Gabet did indeed create Japonese-inspired decorations for Longwy, in which plants reminiscent of those depicted on this vase can sometimes be found. But for now, there is no formal proof... The investigation must continue. This vase is in generally good condition, with no cracks or chips, but it does show some crazing on the glaze, more visible on the inside, and a few light marks or stains, whether original or from use. It measures 23.5 cm in height and approximately 13.5 cm in maximum diameter.
