Stunning mid-century modern sommerso glass vase designed by flavio poli for alessandro mandruzzato (murano, italy, 1960s/1970s). A superb and rare combination of dark grey cased in a band of purple glass, which is further encased in an angular block of transparent glass, using the renowned venetian sommerso technique. Beautifully faceted glass. The vase is extremely decorative. Mandruzzato is well-known for producing exceptional geometric and cubic-shaped art glass pieces. Height: 26 cm; width (largest point): 10 cm; depth (largest point): 10 cm. Quite heavy (1.6 kg). Excellent vintage condition. No chips, no cracks. Two barely visible flea bites on one edge (last picture). "sommerso" is a technique developed in murano in the 1930s which was very popular in the 1950s-70s. The result is a glass with contrasting colours that is commonly cased by a clear layer.
