Superb ceramic bottle from the Bay Keramik factory, model A1402, rooster motif (hahn) Background: Bay Keramik (meaning Bay Ceramics) was founded by Eduard Bay in Ransbach-Baumbach, West Germany, in 1933. It was a major producer of Fat Lava and Mid-Century decorative ceramics, particularly during its boom from the 1950s to the 1970s. The style of the bottle, with its matte stoneware body, folk art-inspired decoration (rooster motif), and raised glaze application, is a classic example of West German pottery (WGP) from the 1960s/1970s. The mark ("A 1402") indicates the mold/model number of the piece. The prefix "A" is sometimes used by Bay. This particular model, with its stylized bird/rooster motif, is often referred to by collectors simply by its number or the subject of the motif (for example, "Bay Rooster Bottle"). Its dimensions are 12.5 cm high by 9.5 cm wide. It weighs 458 grams.
