The watercolour is presented and supplied in a sympathetic contemporary frame (which is shown in these photographs), mounted using conservation materials and behind glass. This piece is in superb condition. It wants for nothing and is supplied ready to hang and display. This original watercolour of whitby harbour, the mouth of the river esk, shows the famous 199 steps, stone jetty and a cluster of red roofed cottages and town houses. Perched high on the cliff, along the skyline we see the remains of whitby abbey, the inspiration for bram stoker’s gothic tale of dracula. In the foreground a small fishing vessel, with red tinged sail, has just set out into the north sea, watched by a handful of pedestrians on the shore and half a dozen seagulls who circle the harbour. The painting conveys an uplifting mood, where quiet activity creates just enough capture in an otherwise tranquil scene.
