A set of four Chinese blue and white bowls with a flared rim and a loosely painted decoration of lotus scrolls. Each bowl features a calligraphic character inside and a painted mark under the foot. Made in the Qing dynasty, 19th century, for everyday use and export to South-East Asia. It is quite special to find four pieces of the same model together for 19th-century utilitarian porcelain. They are still very usable for rice, nuts, dessert, or simply as decoration. Lovely on open shelves in a country kitchen, in a Japandi or wabi sabi interior, or stacked as a still life. Condition: Good for utilitarian porcelain. One bowl has a small chip on the rim; otherwise, no cracks visible. Unglazed foot rings with kiln grit and wear, light glaze wear on the rims, and a brown discolouration in one bowl.
