Sublime Duo desk lamp by Andre Ricard for Metalarte. Spain 1973. Very rare piece by this fabulous designer. This being the first edition, hard to find. A unique and iconic luminous work. Currently reissued by Santa&Cole. Base composed of two chrome-plated metal feet supporting two chocolate brown lacquered metal reflectors. They pivot independently on their axis, 360°. Openings on the top allow a light beam to pass through and the heat from the bulbs to escape. Engraved with the MA manufacturer. Excellent condition. Some minimal signs of age. A pioneer of Spanish industrial design, André Ricard was president of ADI-FAD, founding president of ADP, and a member of the Faculty of the Art Center (Switzerland), among other positions. An internationally recognized designer, he has created packaging, household utensils, lighting fixtures, and furniture that have become part of everyday domestic life. Among his best-known works are the Copenhaguen ashtray, produced by Mobles 114, and the Olympic torch for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. By applying the method of logical analysis, he achieves "the harmonious integration of the most beautiful form and the demands of function, " with a classic, enduring, and timeless design style. André Ricard has been awarded the Spanish National Design Prize, the Sant Jordi Cross from the Catalan Government, the Olympic Order from the International Olympic Committee, and the Gold Medal for Artistic Merit from the City of Barcelona. He has also been named a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres and a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in France.
