Beautiful engraving by the engraver prot after the work of ludwig rullmann. This engraving belongs to a set of 4 representing allegories of wisdom and recklessness, based on the myth of psyche. This is the number 2 of wisdom. The engraving takes place in a natural setting, where a young woman extinguishes a torch in a stream under the gaze of a cherub. In this scene, there is a clear allusion to the myth of psyche. In this myth, a young ancient princess makes cupid fall in love with her because he was wounded by one of her arrows. Cupid is a deity who makes people fall in love with him through his fire. Here, psyche extinguishes the fires lit by cupid. Cupid is recognizable by his angelic appearance and bow. Ludwig rullmann was a german painter, engraver and lithographer of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He was a drawing teacher in bremen. He also stayed in paris, where he made lithographs and portraits.
