🪑 Description. Height: 82 cm. Width: 39 cm Seat 34 cm. Seats slightly sagging. Worn velvet. No holes. Wood shows signs of wear. No nail marks. These are a pair of antique curved solid wood chairs with a rectangular backrest, featuring: • solid wood structure, beech Quite dark, with a patina and significant signs of wear; • backrest and seat upholstered in red velvet. • brass or patinated metal upholstery nails, placed all around the backrest and seat; • relatively straight and simple backrest; • vertical wooden supports extending down to the seat; Why Beech is very commonly used for the frames of antique seats: it is strong, consistent, and lends itself well to joinery and woodworking. Walnut is also possible, but one would need to see the wood on an unvarnished part or under the chair to be more certain. Historical French seats are indeed made of beech and then stained walnut colour. Collection of the Mobilier national. ➡️ probably 1890/1930 with a preference for the late 19th century / very early 20th century. Their construction and appearance make me think more of chairs from the 19th century or antique-style chairs made at that time. To be refreshed. Possibility to split the lot. Shipping possible.
