Terracotta decanter shaped and painted by hand. A single family of craftsmen from kutch, a large district of gujarat, still produces these potteries typical of the region. Men make pottery, while women paint it using engobes made from earth and sand. This family is the last to perpetuate this ancestral art. Using the natural condensation process, pottery is still very common in india to keep water cool. There are often large round earthen jars, covered with a damp cloth, serving as a drinking water fountain. You can use this pottery as a decorative object or as a real decanter; if you choose the second option, we advise you to put the pottery on a piece of fabric because natural condensation may form water at the base of the decanter.
