A vintage coffee table with a ceramic tile top, whose vibrant colors and abstract decor will bring a distinctly 1960s-1970s touch to a living room. The rectangular top features twenty-one glazed tiles forming a single composition: wide vertical bands of turquoise, cobalt blue, bottle green, brown, and burgundy, punctuated by white drips, stand out against a deep smoky gray background. The effects of the glaze, between transparency and thickness, give the whole piece a beautiful intensity. The top is bordered by a black edge and rests on a chrome metal base, consisting of two tapered legs connected by a crossbar, complete with their original tips. A design piece in the Vallauris spirit, ideal for warming up a contemporary interior or a mid-century decor. From the post-war period, Vallauris, on the Côte d'Azur, became one of the major centers of French ceramics, notably boosted by Picasso's arrival in 1948. In the 1960s and 1970s, the workshops in the city and throughout France produced numerous coffee tables with glazed tile tops, featuring abstract or figurative designs, which are now highly sought after by design enthusiasts. Sold as is: a fine crack on one tile, small marks on the edge, slight wear on the chrome.
