Very beautiful painting, oil on wood from the 19th century, representing a steamship, leaving the port with in the foreground, a scene of life with characters, in the background sailing boats, and above, a group of houses as well as a church, all on the edge of a cliff. Typical landscape of the opal coast. The scene is represented in a semi-stormy sky with a calm sea presenting some waves at the edge of the beach. All in a gilded wooden frame there are two inscriptions in pencil on the back: it is inscribed on the one hand isabey undoubtedly for the famous official painter of the navy eugène isabey (1803-1886), specialized in painting landscapes of the capital of the opal coast boulogne-sur-mer. On the other hand it is also registered c kawasseg fils (1808 -1904) painter specialized in the painting of the breton coasts, the north sea and norman landscapes undoubtedly tracks to dig for the precise identification of the artist who painted this painting, knowing that isabey was a painter who did not always sign his works. Condition: the frame has some small shocks, and lacks material, without great seriousness. The wooden panel, it has the beginning of a crack in the lower part (to be redone at the same time as a possible stripping of varnish), a vertical scratch at the level of the houses. The varnish is of the period and therefore partially yellowed, and would deserve to be redone, in order to find beautiful bright colors.
