Exceptional pair of vases in Trench Art, true witnesses of the Great War, made from 75mm shell casings of the famous French field gun model 1897. Dated 1916 according to the regulatory inscriptions engraved on the base ('75 DEC', 'Rs', '35L 16R'), these pieces represent a remarkable example of the craftsmanship of French gunners in the trenches. The cylindrical body in gilded brass is beautifully adorned with engraved and repoussé decorations: two crossed cannons, the emblematic insignia of artillery, framing an oval medallion stamped with the number '75' enhanced by two stylised wings. The neck of each shell has been skillfully cut and shaped into pointed metal leaves opening like a corolla, with delicate inlays of reddish copper creating a beautiful warm contrast with the gilded brass — a forward-thinking Art Deco touch born in the trenches. The whole set presents a beautiful period patina with perfectly homogeneous natural oxidations, an undeniable guarantee of their authenticity and age. Gentle and consistent wear testifies to a century of existence. These two vases form a matched pair of great rarity, combining historical, military, and artistic value. Ideal for a military art collection, vintage decoration, or a characterful interior. Dimensions: H. 35 cm — Ø 18 cm — Weight: 3 kg. Materials: Brass and copper. Period: First World War, circa 1916. Condition: Consistent wear with age, beautiful patina of authenticity.
