Ashanti Fertility Doll - Ghana - 39 cm

Dimensions of 39 X 17 X 4 cms. Weight approximately 0.210 kg without packaging. Materials: wood, glass beads, natural pigments. Presumed seniority: more than 40 years. Ashanti doll, called "akwaba" (which means "welcome" in most "akan" ethnic groups) or "fertility". We find on this statuette the ovoid-shaped head, the most identifiable sign among ashanti dolls. The piece presents very fine sculptural features, particularly at the back of the head. Patina predominantly dark and shiny, lighter at the points of contact, and partially covered with projections of natural pigments.
