A very large ovoid-shaped vase created by the french ceramicist alexandre kostanda, made from chamotte clay and adorned with a vibrant polychrome abstract enamel design. In 1953, alexandre kostanda established his own workshop in vallauris. He imported stoneware clay from cluny, capable of withstanding higher firing temperatures, and mixed it with the local vallauris clay. In 1968, he was among the ceramicists who organized the international ceramic biennial in vallauris. Despite the typical vibrant colors seen in vallauris ceramics, he preferred subtle and subdued hues, close to the natural tones of the clay. The vase is signed "kostanda" on the back.
