The margoum has Berber origins, thus reflecting Berber art and is decorated with diamonds known as regma, famous Berber motifs symbolising fertility. The margoum is often adorned with three different types of diamonds depending on the rug: A large central diamond. Medium-sized diamonds. Or multiple small diamonds. The margoum is almost always surrounded by two borders decorated with various Berber motifs; diamonds, triangles, zigzags, combs… The patterns are always geometric and well-defined on the front.
