Born into a family of notable Milanese architects, Italian designer Vico Magistretti (1920-2006) was rigid in his philosophy: there is no excuse for bad design. Called one of the founders of Italian design, he was widely praised for his experimental yet strikingly harmonious work that ranged from sleek, high-quality furniture to elaborate architectural facades. In the 1960s, Magistretti began collaborating with some of the world's leading manufacturers - from Artemide to Oluce - to design furniture and objects that are still considered classics of contemporary production. Today, his award-winning work is spread around the world – in galleries, museums and private homes – each piece illustrates his ability to combine simplicity with essentialism in contemporary design.
