Early edition Feltri Chair by Gaetano Pesce for Cassina. 1980s
The feltri chair is a radical 1980s Italian design that brought craft materials and thinking into the realm of product design. Pesce was aware of the symbolism of felt as an industrial material – serving as a metaphor for warmth, survival and psychological protection. These chairs were manufactured with detachable back quilts and seats in a variety of colourways (like many products during the era) in order to appeal to the taste of customers. This chair has a black seat and extra back cushion and a light ‘baby blue’ quilt. (the previous owner used it mostly without the quilt attached). The chair is in good solid sturdy vintage condition. The back of the felt body has some fading/discolouration where the chair was once placed next to a window - in our opinion this actually makes it look better. The felt body of the chair also has minor surface wear. (the previous owner used it mostly without the attachable quilt) The chair comes with its original quilted upholstery that connects to the felt body using push button connections. The blue coloured quilt is still in good vibrant condition (with only minor signs of age and use as would be expected of a 1980s piece of furniture). There are a couple of small invisible repairs that are hardly visible.
