Still life with lamp, signed pastel

Henry Ottmann (1877-1927) Still Life with Lamp. Signed bottom right. Pastel on paper. Framed 45 X 53 cm. We knew that Henry Ottmann was a great pastellist, and he brilliantly demonstrates this in this beautiful still life. The velvety quality of the pastel and the harmony of colours wonderfully serve his subject. Of course, the atmosphere created around the lamp is reminiscent of the interiors of Édouard Vuillard from the same period, who was also very attached to the motif of the lamp and its lighting. Ottmann was therefore an artist of his time, but with a very personal artistic language, and as in this case, his characteristic touch is immediately recognisable. Once again, pastels are the ideal medium to create the misty atmosphere that characterises the art of Henry Ottmann.
