Provencal bread box in solid walnut from the early 19th century. This magnificent bread box is an indisputable masterpiece. It is the result of the work of passionate cabinetmakers. It was dedicated to the conservation of bread. This piece of furniture, whose shapes are specific and original, is richly decorated with floral representations, leaves, ears of wheat, bunches of fruit, moldings, and patterns. Its three facades made up of a succession of turned wooden spindles align to form an openwork grid to allow air to circulate for good conservation of the bread. Its bottom is openwork. Its feet end in the shape of a snail. The front has a carved door with a finely chiseled iron entrance. It is beautifully made. The key is in working order. The whole thing harmonizes perfectly and gives a coherent appearance to the furniture. The upper and lower crosspieces are very wide in the center and then taper at the ends. They are carved with garlands of flowers, leaves and different patterns. This bread box was hung on the wall to keep the bread out of reach of rodents. This piece of furniture charms us with its elegance, its history, its beautiful patina aged by time, its robustness, by the function reserved for it. The bread box is made from quality materials and built using old techniques: tenons and mortises weld the pieces of wood together and reinforce the solidity.
