Robert Charroy desk for Mobilor 1950. H.74 W.118 D.60.5 cm. I also present the Robert Charroy desk for Mobilor and a chair from the same period. Robert Charroy is a French designer primarily active in the post-war period. He is best known for succeeding Jacques Hitier as the furniture designer at Mobilor, a manufacturer specialising in furniture for public spaces. Charroy made his mark in the early 1950s by designing tubular-structured furniture, combining materials such as wood, fabric, vinyl, and formica. His creations, both functional and aesthetic, notably furnished the university campus in Antony, where his desks and furniture sets became emblematic of 1950s and 60s design. His style, characterised by clean lines and innovative materials for the time, contributed to modernising the furnishing of public and private spaces in France. Charroy remains an important figure in mid-20th century French industrial design. Tubular structure in black lacquered metal. Wooden top with black banding. Right side drawer. The piece is in good condition. Signs of metal oxidation. No stains on the top. Minimal signs of use and age on this piece.
