Art Nouveau vase, glass, Loetz, Czechoslovakia, early 20th century

A unique Art Nouveau Loetz vase from the early 20th century, produced in Czechoslovakia, representing the craftsmanship of Art Nouveau glass. The object is made of glass in an intense emerald green colour with smooth tonal transitions, further enriched with an iridescent, pearly sheen. The body is decorated with a distinctive honeycomb pattern, in the form of regularly arranged oval cells giving the vase's surface a three-dimensional, tactile character. The form has bulbous proportions at the bottom and a smoothly narrowing neck with a wide, straight rim, maintaining the organic dynamism typical of Art Nouveau designs. The whole is finished without visible joints, and the rim is formed smoothly and evenly. The glass surface, apart from the intended optical pattern, remains smooth without losses, chips or signs of repair. The vase is in excellent condition – without signs of wear typical for the period. This vase evokes the atmosphere of the turn of the century, when Loetz artists and craftsmen drew on nature as a source of visual inspiration. The slender, undulating lines of the form speak the language of Art Nouveau, and the play of light on the iridescent surface resembles the movement of water and the subtlety of leaves moved by a gentle breeze. The highlighted honeycomb pattern makes the object seem to almost pulse with light, reminiscent of organic structures observed under a microscope or an emerald hidden deep in the forest. The reflection of light creates the impression that the vessel is still in motion – a relic of an era celebrating the beauty of natural form. The vase can be placed on an oak or walnut console in the living room, where the iridescent green will emphasise the nobility of the wood and the contrast of textures. It will also work as a solitaire against a light wall or surrounded by milky or transparent glass in a composition with other Art Nouveau objects. If you place a single branch or leaf in it, it will highlight the organic character of the form; but even without filling, thanks to its complex pattern and colour, the vase can be the central point of an interior kept in the spirit of Art Nouveau, classicism or an eclectic collector's salon.
