Murano Glass Flush Mount Light by Sylcom, Gold and Transparent Glass, Italy

Murano Italian glass flush mount light, signed Sylcom Light: a shallow cone of transparent glass sprinkled with amber glass fragments, mounted on a gilded brass rosette adorned with three sculpted amber glass flowerets. Amber glass fragments are fused at the back of the shade, allowing the outer surface to remain smooth and see the amber through a layer of transparent glass. The effect has real depth. About Sylcom Light. Sylcom Light, based in Venice, have been working in the Murano glass tradition since the late 1960s. They melt their glass directly from raw materials and keeps design, metalwork, assembly, and wiring in-house. Their range runs from faithful reproductions of classic Venetian chandeliers to contemporary pieces by outside designers, among them Marc Sadler. Their work from the 1980s and 1990s spans bold postmodern designs and quieter pieces like this one. This piece retains Sylcom’s original printed label (see images), with the model number, the Made in Italy mark, and the CE conformity mark. CE marking for European lighting dates from 1995, which places this Murano glass flush mount in the late 1990s or 2000s.
