This elegant art deco chryselephantine sculpture, attributed to marcel-andré bouraine (1886-1948), depicts a sea lion in perfect balance on a marble base, holding a polished ball on its nose. Bouraine, a renowned french sculptor of the art deco period, he is known for his ability to capture grace and elegance in his sculptures. Marcel-andré bouraine began his career under the influence of jean-alexandre-joseph falguière and, after his experience in world war i, continued exhibiting at prestigious art salons such as the salon des tuileries and the salon d'automne in paris. He collaborated with prominent french sculpture houses, including susse frères and goldscheider, and worked under the pseudonym "derenne" for the leverrier company. His collaboration with gabriel argy-rousseau in 1928, where he produced pâte de verre figures, solidified his reputation. Additionally, his participation in the 1937 international exposition in paris ensured him a prominent place among the artists of his time.
