Warren Platner Steel and Glass Coffee Table, 1962

Coffee table designed in 1958 by Warren Platner for Knoll International. The base is a sculptural intertwining of hand-bent steel rods, individually welded. Each rod is made of nickel-plated or bronzed steel, here in a gunmetal finish. The top is a large 15 mm extra-clear crystal disc, ground and bevelled on the edge. Still produced by Knoll today, this table is among the most recognisable and imitated pieces of the 20th century. A centrepiece for a living room, it reflects light and remains timeless and contemporary. Signs of wear due to age and use.
