Mid century retro vintage teak pair of cabinets 1960. This fabulous pair of mid century cabinets is a super addition to your home. With multiple functions whether as side tables with lamps on next to you sofa, in the bedroom as bedside cabinets or wherever you need storage these cabinets are great. The pair was made by meredew furniture and are made from the highest of quality. Beginning in east london, meredew was founded in 1879 by daniel meredew who worked as a cabinet maker and carver, specialising in overmantel mirrors. Fred hard, son of the glass supplier for the mirrors, took over the company in 1907 on meredew’s retirement and moved the business to hertfordshire in 1913. After the first world war the company continued to make standard domestic furniture, overmantels, dining and bedroom furniture but it was not until the 1950’s and the employment of alphons loebenstein, a designer and german refugee, that meredew became hugely popular. Loebenstein persuaded hard to leave behind traditional designs in favour of modern unit furniture. Meredew specialised in bedroom furniture often made in oak and teak with simple silhouettes raised on small feet. In a good used vintage condition with some minor signs of use typical for a piece that age. L 50cm X d 42cm X h 91cm.
