A striking modernist wall cross designed by Vandeweghe for the renowned Belgian ceramics workshop Amphora, circa 1960. Executed in stoneware with a deep red vitreous glaze, the piece combines devotional symbolism with sculptural clarity. The glossy surface reveals subtle tonal variations from crimson to oxblood, framed by a dark contour that accentuates its minimalist form. The reverse bears the impressed “Amphora” mark, confirming its origin in the Turnhout region, where the studio was active during the postwar decades. Amphora’s religious ceramics often balanced spiritual austerity with bold color and material experimentation, making this cross a fine example of Belgian Modernist ecclesiastical art.
