A beautiful japanese kokeshi, vintage, of kijiyama style, from the 1970s, by ogura shogo. Kjiyama kokeshi are produced in akita prefecture, located in the tohoku region of northern japan. The defining characteristic of kijiyama kokeshi is that it is made of one piece of wood. This method is called tsukuritsuke, literally means built-in. She has a solid body with a visible neck and rounded shoulders and wears a vertical striped kimono with a umebachi maekake (plum apron). The minimalist face has a naga-bana (long nose), hangetsu gata (half moon eyes), and a single line with a red dot underneath the mouth. A great addition to your dento kokeshi collection.
