Tripod gueridon in mahogany, with a tilting top – Directoire period / early 19th century

Elegant antique side table in solid mahogany resting on a slender slightly curved tripod base. This type of occasional table, highly valued in bourgeois interiors at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, often served as a salon table, tea table, or decorative side table. The circular top features a lovely natural grain of the wood and rests on a central brass mechanism that allows the top to tilt vertically, an ingenious system widely used on side tables of this period to facilitate storage and movement. The base consists of three elegantly curved legs, connected by a small triangular lower shelf, providing stability and refinement to the whole. The piece has a beautiful old patina that attests to its authenticity and history.
