We are delighted to offer for sale this superb rare and original demi-lune library desk from the mid-Victorian period, circa 1850-1860, made by Patrick Beakey of Dublin, Ireland. This luxurious desk features an oxblood leather writing surface and a brass gallery. The piece is stamped inside a drawer with the mentions P Beakey, cabinetmaker and upholsterer, Stafford Street, Dublin, and the locks are also stamped Secure Lever with the royal crest. It has original Gothic handles on various drawers. The patinated bronze and brass gallery was very popular in the early 19th century. The demi-lune shape is very rare for a desk and usually reserved for consoles and side tables. The desk is in very good condition, in its original unrestored state, with the original finish cleaned, waxed, and polished. The patina is authentic and period. The oxblood leather top is in good condition and complements the mango wood well. The dimensions are: height 104 cm, width 124 cm, depth 74 cm. The height and width of the leg space are 68 cm and 84.5 cm respectively. Please request specific measurements if necessary.
