Wine table with twisted column and tripod – 19th century
An elegant wine table or guéridon from the 19th century. The round top rests on a beautifully twisted column (barley twist) with a turned knop, supported by a tripod with gracefully scrolled feet. The wood has a warm, honey-brown colour. The twisted column is the heart of this piece: skilfully turned and still gleaming after all these years. Small enough for any home, large enough to hold a lamp, a glass of wine or a plant. Wonderful next to an armchair or sofa in a classic, English or country interior, and as a plant table a lovely addition to an eclectic scheme. The top shows stains and rings from use, and the undersides of the legs have old wear and lacquer residue. Honest antique with character. Signs of use. The top has rings, light stains and fading. The undersides of the legs are rough and worn, with remnants of old dark paint. Old glue joints and small shrinkage cracks are visible where the legs join the column. The twisted column is intact. Sturdy enough for normal use.
