Ping Pong Wall Lamp by Masanori Umeda for iGuzzini 1979

The Ping Pong wall lamp designed by Masanori Umeda for iGuzzini in 1979. The lamp, which was also produced in a table version, has a very simple construction to mimic the shape of a ping pong or table tennis bat. A vertical plastic body houses the electrical system for the fluorescent light source with a circular acrylic reflector fitted on top to softly and evenly distribute the light. The lamp also features a pull cord which adds to the playful design. Born in Japan in 1941, Masanori Umeda began his career working in the studio of Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in Milan. In the 1970s he worked under Ettore Sottsass at Olivetti and went on to design numerous pieces for Memphis in the 1980s. His work is held in the permanent collections of several museums around the world. The lamp is new (old stock) and is in perfect unused condition, complete with its original packaging. The sale includes a new circular fluorescent light bulb.
