Lucien Brisdoux, gold metallescent enamel sandstone vase 1930

Rare art deco enamelled stoneware ball vase decorated with gold oxides by the French ceramist Lucien Brisdoux. This elegant vase from the 1930s is astonishingly modern and original. Its abstract decoration harmoniously combining dark green spots on a sienna background enhanced by gold figures simulating bubbles comes from the great mastery of metallescent enamelling by Lucien Brisdoux. Height: 28 cm. Signed l.brisdoux bonny and numbered. Lucien Brisdoux (1878-1963) is a French ceramist recognized for his mastery of metallescent enamelling. He devotes his production to decorative stoneware and concentrates his research on clays and glazes, taken up in particular by Raoul Lachenal in 1924-1925, who created a few pieces in collaboration with Lucien Brisdoux. He works with metal oxides and creates metallescent enamellings (gold or platinum) with casting effects obtained by projection of creosote, after application of ceramic gold. He stopped this technique in 1940 for economic reasons and sold his workshop in 1956.
