OIL ON CANVAS: view of the old Mans

Oil on canvas signed Léon Henri Gérard (1917-2005) – Made in 1991. Very beautiful oil on canvas representing a picturesque view of the Old Mans (Cité Plantagenêt). The artist sensitively captures the charm of the old streets, characterful houses, and the unique atmosphere of the historic heart of Le Mans. His free and luminous touch, inspired by post-impressionism, brings a lot of life and depth to the composition. The work is signed L.H. Gérard at the bottom right; the painter was based at 32 rue de Burgos in Le Mans. The painting comes directly from the artist's family. Little referenced at the national level, Léon Henri Gérard is a regional painter whose works reflect a genuine attachment to the Sarthe heritage. This canvas is a fine example of his work, combining pictorial quality and documentary value. The painting measures 68X60 cm, and the canvas 55X46 cm. There is a small loss of gilding at the bottom left (below the signature), on the left side of the frame (see photo), and there is a slight dent above the edge (see last photo).
