Superb and rare ovoid vase (inspired by ancient alabasters) made of high-fired stoneware, produced by the famous Pottery of Ciboure (Basque Country, France). This model belongs to the production period of Étienne Vilotte (period 1922-1945), as evidenced by the stamped mark under the base: "CIBOURE" above the monogram "VE". Design & Aesthetics. The vase features a finely executed polychrome decoration, characteristic of the neo-Greek/orientalising period of the workshop. The central frieze, hand-painted, depicts a winged mythological creature (bird-siren or sphinx), surrounded by geometric registers of interlocking triangles, chevrons, and stylised wave patterns. The shades of brown, ochre, and matte black typical of Ciboure stoneware give the object a presence that is both historical and decidedly modern. An ideal collector's piece to enhance an Art Deco, Brutalist, or Contemporary interior. Characteristics & Dimensions.
