The armchair is an icon of Spanish design from the 20th century. Dimensions: 72 X 80 cm, H: 73 cm, Seat height: 37 cm. Materials: Beech wood, woven rush. A magnificent vintage Spanish rationalist armchair. Patinated beech structure, seat and backrest in woven rush. Edition of 1990 by Mobles 114 (the only manufacturer with the Torres Clavé patent). In 1934, architect Josep Torres Clavé designed the GATCPAC armchair model or Torres Clavé as part of the furniture intended to furnish the Pavilion of the Spanish Republic designed by Josep Lluís Sert at the 1937 International Exposition in Paris. The seats were displayed in the Guernica room of Pablo Picasso and other works by Alexander Calder or Joan Miró. The design is inspired by traditional chairs from the Balearic Islands, reinterpreted by Torres Clavé from a rationalist perspective. The GATCPAC armchair was designed by this group of Catalan architects and technicians in 1934. "Mobles114, " a Barcelona-based company founded in 1973 and dedicated to contemporary furniture, has relaunched it since the 1990s under the name "Butaca Torres Clavé, " named after Josep Torres Clavé (1906-1939), one of the founders and main partners of GATCPAC, under the direction of his son. He retains several sketches of this model. A GATCPAC armchair can be seen at the Museu del Disseny in Barcelona.
