Lyon School. Oil on canvas signed by Joseph HUVEY (Chavanoz, Isère, 1844 - Lyon, 1919). Lake landscape at sunset. In its find juice, frame as it is. Out of frame 24 x 32 cm. All 33 x 41 cm. It is indeed a work of Joseph and not of Louis HUVEY, a confusion widespread between these two painters from neighbouring regions but whose "signatures" are of different bills. Even Benezit, who gave birth to him in 1868 instead of 1844, had to have only innumerable information. Thanks to the work of Francis Moreau (historian, genealogist), we can reconstruct today the detailed thread of the life and work of this painter trained at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon, who exhibits at the salon of the Society of Friends of fine arts in Lyon as early as 1873 and then ain in 1879 (alongside the bisontin Emile Isembart 1846-1921) until the dawn of the First World War. A familiar painting of water landscapes, ponds, mountain lakes (Haute-Savoie), but especially rivers flowing into the Rhône, from the Saône to the Durance, small tributaries... Banks of the Yseron, of the Brevenne; of the Turdine, of the Azergues among the terraces of the Mountains of Lyon, Beaujolais and Tarare, which Joseph Huvey seems to have frequented tirelessly. Ref.
