Large antique Breton oak piece of furniture – old carved elements
Large characterful oak piece of furniture, of very large dimensions, composed of numerous old sculpted elements and parts that have been altered or added later. The façade features a remarkable set of carved wooden panels with geometric and vegetal decoration: rosettes, leaf motifs, and scrolls worked in high relief. Several of these panels show a very old patina, signs of manual work, and significant marks of use. Their decoration is characteristic of traditional old Breton furniture and particularly evokes the façades of chests from western Brittany in the 17th-18th centuries. The piece has evidently undergone transformations throughout its history: it is a composite piece of furniture, integrating old elements into a subsequently altered structure. It is therefore sold as such and not as a piece entirely dated to the 17th century. It offers a very significant storage capacity: a central part closed by two large doors, numerous drawers, small cupboards, niches, and side bookshelves. Dimensions: Height: 194 cm. Width: 220 cm. Depth of side columns: 30 cm. Maximum depth of the central part: 47 cm. Old condition with patina, signs of use, old traces of wood-boring insects, wear, small losses, and visible old or later repairs/modifications in the photographs. Sold as is. A particularly decorative, atypical piece of furniture, interesting for both its appearance and its reused elements of old furniture.
