George Jones, England, cache-pot with a decoration of plants and swallows, circa 1880. This spectacular cache-pot comes from the kilns of the George Jones factory in England. We can date it to around the 1880s. The plant motifs encompass the almost spherical shape of the cache-pot. Created in high relief, they form both its decoration and its structure. Indeed, the three plants correspond to the three feet of the object. On the body, three swallows stand out against the turquoise blue background. Through the quality of its reliefs, its imposing size, and the reflections of its overlapping leaves, the George Jones factory presents us with a powerful testament to the quality of its work, which rivals that of the great English manufacturers of the second half of the 19th century, such as Wedgwood or Minton. As a mark of quality and recognition, the piece we present adopts the same model as the emblem of the International Majolica Society, which brings together the most important collectors and connoisseurs of majolica.
