A striking and unique sculptural table lamp by Gaetano Missaglia, Italy, 1970s. The lamp features a composition of various thick, clear, and polished methacrylate (Plexiglas) rods, arranged at different heights to create a spectacular lighting effect against a background of high-gloss black methacrylate. This layered structure creates a sophisticated, graphic interplay of depth and light. The entire assembly is encased in a transparent methacrylate hemisphere with a warm grey-purple tint, evoking the impression of an enclosed lunar landscape. The lower half of the sphere is made of opalescent Plexiglas, which softly diffuses the light from the concealed sources; illumination is provided by a circular fluorescent tube that lights the entire object evenly. This creates a beautifully balanced, atmospheric glow. The sphere rests on a cylindrical base that allows the lamp to be rotated, yielding a different visual composition depending on the viewing angle. In excellent original condition.
