Large decorative piece in polychrome terracotta, made in Oaxaca, Mexico, around the 1970s–1980s. Shaped like a fish, it features a hand-painted wedding scene across its surface in the narrative and colourful style of Mexican folk art. The bride and groom, along with the priest, occupy the centre of the composition, surrounded by village characters; a church, a lake, birds, vegetation, a rising sun, and various architectural elements complete the scene. The inscription "OAXACA" appears on the front. The silhouette of the fish is itself sculpted in volume, particularly around the eye and the open mouth. The vividly ornamented borders frame the scene and enhance the graphic quality of the whole. The piece has been designed to be displayed on the wall: a handmade metal wire is threaded through the openings at the top and remains securely fixed. With its length of 36.5 cm, it can also be presented flat as a decorative element or centrepiece. Oaxaca, Mexico, circa 1970–1980. Unidentified artisan. Hand-painted terracotta with a glossy protective finish. Dimensions: 23 × 36.5 × 3 cm. Weight: 717 g. Excellent vintage condition. No visible chips, cracks, crazing, or significant losses. The polychrome decoration remains very vibrant and well-preserved. The hanging metal wire is intact and securely fixed. The unglazed reverse retains the surface appearance related to the handmade shaping and firing.
