Vintage fruit bowl in pale purple glass by Veropa (circa 1960s and 1970s) • Description: a round vintage fruit bowl in swirled glass from France. A large pale purple glass bowl that will enhance any piece of furniture. This moulded glass dish is made from thick, high-quality, sturdy glass. It is smooth on the inside, with the decorative swirling pattern located on the underside, and the ribbed feature continues to the edge of the bowl, giving it a lovely fluted rim. A beautiful vintage item and an elegant, decorative retro addition to your home, perfect for fruits or sweets, or simply as a decorative object. The swirling pattern is somewhat psychedelic, in the popular Op Art style of the 1960s and 1970s (short for Optical Art). • History: these types of moulded bowls were made in France in the 1960s and 1970s by the French company Veropa, known for producing decorative moulded items in clear and coloured glass. In 1906, Joseph Hémain established a glassworks in the Loire region, on the banks of the Gier. After a series of mergers and acquisitions, the company became part of the Boussois-Souchon-Neuvesel group, more commonly known as "BSN", of which Veropa was a part. Eventually, the company joined the Danone group in 1973. The company ceased glass production in 1979. Please note that the vintage item you are looking at is not new and has been around for many years, so there are signs of use, commensurate with its age.
